For children, adolescents & young adults

Child & Adolescent Psychotherapy

Common Ground Therapy provides child and adolescent psychotherapy across south-east London, including Deptford, Peckham, Lewisham and the surrounding boroughs. Child and adolescent psychotherapy offers specialist therapeutic support for children, adolescents, and young adults (ages 0–25) using age-appropriate approaches. This work recognises that children and young people communicate their inner world through play, creativity, and behaviour as much as through words.

Who is it for?

This service may be helpful for children and young people experiencing:

  • Anxiety, low mood, or emotional dysregulation
  • Difficulties at school, including learning and peer relationships
  • The effects of trauma, abuse, neglect, or adverse childhood experiences
  • Attachment difficulties, including those related to looked-after, fostered, or adopted status
  • Neurodevelopmental differences (autism, ADHD, ASD) and their emotional impact
  • Significant life transitions — family breakdown, bereavement, identity

What to expect

Sessions are adapted to the age and developmental stage of the young person. For younger children, play materials are available. For adolescents and young adults, sessions are more conversational but remain exploratory and non-directive. Parents and carers are involved in the process in a way that is appropriate to the young person’s age and circumstances.
