For adults

Individual Psychotherapy

Common Ground Therapy provides individual psychotherapy for adults across south-east London, including Deptford, Peckham and Lewisham. Individual psychotherapy is a longer-term, exploratory approach for adults seeking a deeper understanding of themselves and their experiences. It provides a confidential, regular space to explore thoughts, feelings, patterns of behaviour, and the unconscious dynamics that shape your life.

Unlike short-term counselling, psychotherapy typically involves a sustained commitment over months or years. This depth of work allows for meaningful and lasting change — not just symptom relief, but a genuine shift in how you understand yourself and relate to others.

At Common Ground Therapy, our individual psychotherapy is informed by psychoanalytic and psychodynamic principles, meaning we pay close attention to the relationship between therapist and client as a vehicle for understanding and change.

Who is it for?

Individual psychotherapy may be helpful if you are experiencing:

  • Persistent anxiety, depression, or low mood
  • Difficulties in relationships or patterns that repeat
  • Trauma, loss, or significant life transitions
  • A sense of feeling stuck or disconnected from yourself
  • A wish to understand yourself more deeply

What to expect

Sessions typically take place weekly, at a regular time, for 50 minutes. The first session is an opportunity to talk about what has brought you to therapy and to get a sense of whether working together feels right.
