For trainees, therapists, and trainers

Training workshop facilitation

Common Ground Therapy offers training workshop facilitation to therapy trainees and practitioners across south-east London and nationally. This service is primarily delivered by Dr Nicholas Frealand, a Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist, who draws upon his doctoral research which was carried out with the needs of therapy trainees centrally in mind. The research topic concerned the role of social identity in therapy training and practice.

Workshop approach

These workshops follow a seminar model in which groups of trainees, therapists or trainers explore reflexively together the ways in which ethnicity, religion, class, gender and sexual orientation – as vital aspects of our identities – collide with existing institutional culture encountered in training.

How this interaction develops can shape therapy practice in important ways that benefit from reflecting on together. Within the workshops, participants are invited to think about how early experiences and understandings of training shape practice and one’s relations to our profession.
